Hi,

Don't feel guilty about it. If they are foolish enough to believe that that is an accurate measurement of your intelligence, it isn't your fault. It also depends on whether you have seen the patterns before. When they include sequences like the fibonacci sequence and graphical representations of Zeno's paradox, you're obviously going to do better on it than someone who has never heard of them before. The problem is, there is no such thing as liquid intelligence. You can't figure out how good you are at recognizing patterns, because you will have some experience with them and so will everyone else. So something that used to be about intelligence becomes something about knowledge.
